Photojojo’s Time Capsule reminded me what I did last year: Weaving School! I won a scholarship for a 5-day course at Vävstuga, a Swedish Folk Art and Weaving school in Sherburne Falls, Massachusetts.

Six of us stayed in the beautiful accommodations upstairs. In every room there was simple Swedish decor with woven curtains, towels and rugs for us to oodle over and examine. It was a simple space that was so organized and cozy and was the
perfect setting.

Each day we ate fresh, healthy, homemade meals paired with new table linens.

Even the bathroom had the best towels!

Each morning we had class with Becky, a musician/weaver who discovered weaving on a trip to Sweden in the ’80s. Becky continued her weaving studies in Sweden and has done some incredible work over the years. Her infectious, positive and endless energy kept us all going and got everyone enthused about weaving, even to a newbie like me. We learned weaving terminology, how to warp a loom, how to read patterns, and made projects on various sized Glimakra looms.

The hard part was choosing the colors!

In the end, I walked away with a wool blanket…

Table cloth…

Dishtowel…

And a square table runner that I sewed into a pillowcase.
