I’ve been wanting to try a few different image transfer techniques. One was a transferring an ink jet printout on wood from Matsuake’s blog and the other was from Jessica’s blog, How About Orange, who transferred a laser printout to fabric.
I decided to try Jessica’s acrylic gel medium technique on wood. My friend Katie and I ventured to Rick’s workshop and had a little experiment. After many trials and errors we discovered that a thin layer of the gel medium on the laser printout and a thin layer on the wood was sufficient. You should let them dry and long as possible but I became impatient and used a heat gun. (Note: I haven’t tried it with a hair dyer, but I assume it would work be just fine). When the paper is completely dried to the wood put a tablespoon or so of water over the paper and gently rub away and be prepared to see magic.
Next was the fun part. Seeing as this was project #2 using the scroll saw I had to laugh at how badly I wasn’t able to cut around the lines (see the first image). But then Rick took a stab at cutting out my sister’s curly hair and it was perfect. So cute!
