Earlier this summer B and I visited my sister and her husband in Iceland. I taught my sister how to knit the previous April and soon she already surpassed me by knitting an Icelandic sweater and more recently turned into a mitten knitting machine. On this trip I picked up the léttlopi yarn and made mittens based on a pattern from this Icelandic book. B’s request and awesome suggestion was to make the thumbs a completely different color and I love the way they turned out.

When the East Coast was bracing for Sandy’s visit, it seemed like the perfect time to finally knit myself a pair. I used the same basic mitten pattern from the book but added my own design. It kept me busy and perhaps took away my nervous fear as we watched the news. Thankfully everything was fine where we were, but my heart goes out to everyone who was affected.
