My sister and I visited my Dad in Denmark for all our childhood summers. My dad’s girlfriend’s kids, Tina and Lars, who were born and raised in Germany would often visit in the summers too. Tina was 7 years older than me and so to a 9 year old she was the coolest. She perfected the art of handwriting letters and making envelopes out of magazine pages. She was also a big tennis fan so of course I was too!
One summer Tina started a “Favorites” book where various friends would fill in their favorite things: book, song, food, etc. and give her a photo. Anne and I decided to start our own book and was excited to have our relatives and friends fill it in.
Farfar (Danish for “Dad’s Dad”) likes: beer and schnaps.
Farmor (Danish for “Dad’s Mom”) favorite animal: Busser (their black poodle) pictured below.
We even filled out one for our dog, Sheba.
And who doesn’t love the Pet Shop Boys?
I made a few more books throughout high school and college so it’s been fun looking through them again. Nowadays the replacement is Facebook, but to some relatives that are no longer with us, this book is beyond priceless.
